Secret Recipe Revealed! Fun With Vodka and Gin

by Nick 25. March 2009 03:40

I can't go into the back history on this one, according to our highly paid and well-manicured legal staff. All I can tell you is that there was a time where this drink was very heavily favored with my crew, and once the supplies became readily available we took any chance we could to bust out this old favorite recipe.

The drink is called The C*mshot. I'll be lucky if I can get that by my bosses over here at the Cabinet, but once you understand the mix, you'll understand the name. And as long as your crew is of legal age, you might be able to tell them the name without giggling. I don't know that, for sure. I'm 27 and I still giggle.

First things first, we need some vodka. The first time we did this, we had a bottle of Kappy's vodka and a dream. What could we add to this that would make it actually taste good? At this point, I wasn't too familiar with what goes well with what. I knew I liked pretty much anything in cola or sprite, and that clear liquor was usually better for mixing. My dark rum experiments never went very well, but I'm an adventurer!

So, I go to my liquor cabinet and get out the standards; Kahlua and Bailey's Irish Creme. Mudslide? That would take the edge off the Kappy's, but it was kinda boring.

Then it hit me.

First, my eye caught the chocolate ice cream. Hm.

Fine, but nothing too drastic.

Chocolate liqueur? Sure, why not. What's a few more calories, we're living it up!

Here's the kicker: If you want to add a little Sambuca, you can. But you need to be really careful with how much you use. Sambuca has an overpowering taste and can easily blow this. I would say half a shot to every blender.

Last but not least, any CLEAR gin. You're thinking "Vodka with gin, that's gross!!!" and I know, it should be. Juniper berries aside, there's NO difference between them, though. And let's be honest, who is tasting anything other than chocolate here. This goes back to my inexperience with mixing drinks when this was concocted. We happened to run out of vodka and so we went with the closest thing we could find; a bottle of clear gin. I don't remember what kind we initially used, but nowadays we get Beefeater : ) I didn't say this was a high-class drink, I said it tastes great. Sure, you could load it with Vodka and Sambuca, but this is about presentation, folks. Plus, if you so choose to substitute chocolate ice cream with strawberry, you'll have an excuse to use gin.

So anyways, vodka and gin, equal parts (4-5 shots of each for us), to your liking in a blender. I like ice cream, so I add 6 scoops. Half a shot of 'buca, half a shot of chocolate liqueur. 2 shots of Bailey's, 2 shots of Kahlua, hit that frappe button. Add milk if you added too much ice cream, but be careful not to "milk" it down. You want it to be strong enough to serve in shots.

Serve it in shot glasses or as mixed drinks in tall glasses. Personally, I think shot glasses are more fun, and of course that's the namesake. However, if your liking wasn't the 8+ shots we recommend, drinking this mix in shot glasses will be the equivalent of eating McDonald's with the good china.

Give this a shot and hit us up with some feedback! Enjoy a C*mshot today!
